Stump Removal in Northeast Georgia

Most people who want a stump 'removed' just want it gone so they can mow, plant, or build. Grinding is how we remove stumps — ground into chips right where they stand, with no big hole and no torn-up lawn.

Here's the honest truth about stump removal: most people who search for it don't actually care how the stump comes out. They just want it gone so they can mow over the spot, plant something new, put up a fence, or build. The stump is in the way, and they want the way clear.

Grinding is how ARM Co Stump Grinding removes stumps. Instead of digging the whole stump and root ball out of the ground, we grind the stump down into wood chips right where it stands. The cutting wheel chews through the stump and the upper root crown, turning solid wood into a pile of chips and soil. No excavation, no crater, no heavy equipment tearing up the grass around it.

What you're left with is a small area of chips and soil that sits level with the surrounding ground. You can rake it smooth, top it with a little topsoil, and seed it or lay sod. The stump is gone — removed — and your yard is still intact.

How Bob Does It

  1. 1

Send a photo of the stump

Call or text Bob at (706) 207-2341 with a picture of the stump you want removed. Something for scale helps him see the size. He'll look at it and give you a quote.

  2. 2

Bob comes out and looks at the job

For most jobs Bob can quote from a photo. If the stump is large or the access is tight, he'll come look at it in person so there are no surprises when the grinder shows up.

  3. 3

The stump is ground out in place

The Rayco track-mounted grinder is positioned at the stump and the cutting wheel grinds the stump and upper root crown into chips. The stump is removed without digging a hole.

  4. 4

    The spot is left level

Bob rakes the chips smooth so the area is level with the surrounding ground. The stump is gone and the spot is ready for grass, planting, or whatever you have planned.

Grinding vs. Digging It Out

There are two ways to get a stump out of the ground. The old way is to dig it out — excavate the entire stump and its root ball with heavy equipment, then haul the whole mass away. It works, but it's rough on a yard. Digging out a root ball means a backhoe or an excavator, and that means a large hole and a lawn that's torn up around the stump.

Grinding is the other way, and it's what we do. The grinder chews the stump down into chips in place, so there's no hole to fill and no heavy equipment driving across your grass. What's left is a shallow area of chips and soil, not a crater. You rake it level, add topsoil if you want grass, and the spot blends in.

For most homeowners, grinding is the clear choice. You get the stump removed, you keep your yard, and you're not left filling a hole and regrading the ground. The only thing that comes out is the stump itself.

Stumps Left Behind After Tree Removal

A lot of the stumps we remove are leftovers. A tree came down in a storm and the crew that cut it up left the stump. Or a tree service took down a dead tree and the stump wasn't part of the job. Either way, you're left looking at a stump that nobody's coming back for.

Storm-downed trees are common across Northeast Georgia. After the limbs and trunk are hauled off, the stump sits there until you deal with it. Grinding it out clears the spot so you can use the yard again — no more mowing around it, no more tripping over it.

If another company cut your tree and left the stump, that's exactly the kind of job we take on. You don't need to call the original tree service back. Just send Bob a photo and we'll get the stump ground out and the spot cleaned up.

Stump Removal — Common Questions

Is stump removal the same as stump grinding?

For us, yes. We remove stumps by grinding them into chips in place, rather than digging the whole root ball out. The stump is gone and there's no big hole left behind.

Will there be a hole in my yard after the stump is removed?

No. Because we grind the stump in place, what's left is a shallow area of chips and soil, not a crater. We rake it level so it blends with the surrounding ground.

Can you remove a stump another tree company left behind?

Yes. Stumps left after storm cleanup or tree removal are a common job for us. Send a photo and we'll grind it out.

Do you remove the roots too?

We grind the stump and the upper root crown. The large lateral roots that run underground are left in place, where they break down naturally over time without disturbing your yard.

Can I plant or lay sod where the stump was removed?

Yes. Remove most of the wood chips and fill the spot with topsoil first, because grindings settle as they break down. Then you can seed, lay sod, or plant.

How do I get a quote for stump removal?

Call or text Bob a photo of the stump at (706) 207-2341. He'll look at the job and give you a quote.
