About 11 miles from our Hull base

Danielsville is the seat of Madison County and the birthplace of Dr. Crawford W. Long, the physician remembered for his early use of ether in surgery. The town mixes older in-town homes, many with mature shade trees in their yards, with the rural acreage that surrounds it out toward the county's farms and fields.

Mature trees are a gift until one comes down or gets cut. A big old hardwood stump in a front yard is heavy, dense, and in the way of everything, from mowing to parking to a future planting bed. Out on the acreage, stumps collect along cleared fence lines and old garden spots the same way they do across the rest of the county.

Mature Trees, Mature Stumps

Older in-town lots in Danielsville often hold large hardwoods, oaks especially, that have been growing for decades. When one of those comes down, the stump left behind is dense and slow to break down on its own. Hardwoods like oak take longer to grind than pine, and some keep sending up sprouts from the stump and roots until the stump is ground out.

Bob brings the Rayco track-mounted grinder in and takes the stump down where it stands, without digging a big hole in the yard or tearing up the ground around it. The machine handles stumps from 3 inches in diameter up to 8 feet wide.

In-Town Lots and Rural Acreage

A tight in-town lot calls for a machine that fits. The track-mounted grinder is compact enough to work in yards and through gates where a big truck cannot reach, so a stump in a back yard is not a problem. On the surrounding acreage, Bob clears multiple stumps in one visit, from a handful to a whole lot full.

Wherever the stump sits, cleanup is part of the job. Bob rakes the grindings smooth as mulch or hauls them away, depending on what you want done with the spot.

Getting the Spot Back to Usable

Once the stump is ground out, the area is a mix of wood chips and soil. For a spot you want to mow straight over, raking the grindings level is often enough. For a spot you want to plant, seed, or lay sod on, remove most of the chips and fill with topsoil first, because grindings settle as they break down.

Georgia Piedmont red clay under the chips drains slowly, so the patch can hold water until it is topped up. A little topsoil goes a long way toward getting the spot back to grass.

Danielsville Stump Grinding — Common Questions

Can you grind a big oak stump in a Danielsville yard?

Yes. Hardwoods like oak are dense and take longer than pine, but the Rayco grinder handles stumps from 3 inches up to 8 feet wide. Some hardwoods keep sending up sprouts until the stump is ground out.

Will the grinder fit through my gate?

The Rayco is track-mounted and compact, so it can get into backyards and through gates where a big truck cannot go. If access is tight, mention it when you call so Bob can plan for it.

Do you clean up the grindings in town?

Yes. Cleanup is part of every job. Bob can rake the grindings smooth and leave them as mulch, or haul them away if you want a clean spot for grass or planting.

How far is Danielsville from you?

Danielsville is about 11 miles from our Hull base. Jobs are scheduled, so call or text (706) 207-2341 to get on the calendar.

Can you clear several stumps on my acreage at once?

Yes. Bob schedules multiple stumps in one visit, from a few across the property to a full lot. One visit, one cleanup.
